Hidden Treasures Tour - A Ruin Pub

One of the highlights our Budapest trip was going on the most fascinating private tour of Budapest. Once such place during our walking tour was a ruin pub! What is a 'ruin pub' you may ask? Well literally 'ruin pubs' (romkocsma) are pubs that consume formerly abandoned buildings in the city.

Szimpla Kert is one of the oldest "ruin pubs" in Budapest, and a popular hangout for students and art types. In 2012, this pub was voted No. 3 in Lonely Planet's '100 great bars of the world' contest....and we definitely agree especially when it was 'market day' on the day we went.....hopefully one day we can take you there for a drink!
