RECAP 2011 - Munich - The Magical Neuschwanstein Castle

A trip to Munich cannot exlude the all important trip to the famous ' Neuschwanstein Castle' (unless your trip to Munich is all about getting drunk). The journey took around and hour and we decided to join a tour group/guide (but still using public transport). The castle (or castles) were commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner...he was known as a reclusive/a little crazy and till today there is mystery surrounding how he died. It was a great day out seeing the castle that Disney has used to create all its castles.

We arrived in the town of Fussen and took a short bus ride to the village of Hohenschwangau where the castle is located.

RECAP 2011 - Munich - Christmas Markets

Our first Christmas overseas and our first real Christmas Market. We were blessed with good weather (cold but not snowing) and that made our trip to Munich a pleasant one. Items sold at the stalls were consistently similar but we were impressed by the handiwork of the craftsman (the wooding figurines and carvings)

We couldn't help but taste some of the yummy food and strange hot orange juice!
