RECAP 2012 - Zagreb - A Hidden Gem

Picture speaks louder than words! So here are some of the attractions of this GEM city called Zagreb...

St Marks Church – the tiles on the roof sparkles / reflects the sun during sunny days. It’s amazing that although this church has been around for a while, the colors of the roof still remainds the way it is.

St George and the dragon – We always hear of St George fighting the dragon. This is one of the few statues that we actually see him defeating the dragon (which looks more like a lizard here… hehe).

Zagreb Cathedral is the most famous building in Zagreb and the tallest building in Croatia. Notice that there is construction work being done on one of the towers? Well, apparently the work has been on-going for 30 years..and is still continuing. Apparently after this tower is done, work will move to the other tower…another 30 / 40 years? Well, guess I will not be seeing this church in all its glory (ie. Without the construction work. PS This is a country kinda like Malaysia – take the relax approach to doing things ;).

Museum of Broken Relationships – How interesting is this musuem!! Too bad we never had the time to go and have a look around – I wonder what the exhibits will be. The hot chocolate that is served in the cafĂ© @ this restaurant, is the best in Zagreb. Yum.

You could walk around the whole town of Zagreb, looking for the different planets of the solar system that is built to scale, size and distance wise. Very interesting concept”  We only saw Venus and the Sun.

Miracle portrait of Mother Mary and Baby Jesus. Apparently this portrait is originally in a church but the church was burnt down, although the portrait survived without a scratch! Hence, the locals believe this to be a miracle and left notes around this picture when they have answered prayers.

There is so much history and hidden gems in Zagreb/Croatia....more will be revealed in later posts.
